About Tidey Ocean

We intercept plastic before it reaches the ocean.

Tidey Ocean is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit working in coastal Guatemala. We recover ocean-bound plastic at the source by paying local collectors directly, by the pound, and recycling what they bring in.

Our founder

Jeremy Porter

On humanitarian trips to Guatemala in 2019 and Fiji in 2021, Jeremy Porter saw plastic-clogged rivers feeding directly into the Pacific. The communities living along them had few resources to stop it.

Jeremy founded Tidey Ocean to pay local collectors for the plastic they recover at the source. The plastic problem is global, but the interventions that work are local.

What started as a single hub on the Maria Linda river is now a network of paid collectors, recycling partners, and blockchain-recorded impact data used by businesses across the United States.

What we believe

Three principles guide every cleanup.

Paid at the point of collection

Collectors are paid directly, by the pound, when they deliver. Plastic recovery is a livelihood, not charity.

Source-based

We work in the communities where ocean plastic actually originates. Stop it before the river, not after the gyre.

Recorded, not promised

Collection is recorded on the BanQu blockchain, and we publish the places where that record is incomplete.
